Tecolote Canyon Loop from Tecolote Road

Overview

Starts off flat, then, about a mile and a half in, after a bit of deep sandy road, the trail hits a couple of steep (7-8%) climbs with some single trail technical parts. Just before the golf course at 2.1 miles, you are advised to carry your bike over the bridge crossing a small creek. Be courteous to the golfers and watch for cars on your way to Mt. Acadia Blvd at 2.5 miles in. The trail gets more fun from here.

There's another small bridge at mile 3.6, just before the steep climb to Balboa Ave. Unfortunately, you'll have to climb up to the Balboa Ave-Clairemont Drive intersection to cross over to the last section of the trail which involves riding against traffic on Balboa Ave. Be extremely careful! A narrow bridge with sharp turns follows at 5.1 miles. Watch your handlebars! Couple of rocky creek crossings at mile 5.5 (the first one is really rough) just before hitting the steep climb to Genesse Trailhead at 5.8 miles.

Turn around and ride mostly downhill on your way back and reward yourself with a fun, curvy singletrack add-on just before finishing up at the south end between 10.6-11.3 miles.
