Joaquin Miller Park Standard XC Loop

Overview

Parking is plentiful on Joaquin Miller Road. Climb up Sanbourn (paved) to "The Lookout" and drop in on Sinawik Trail for a fun but short descent into a gorgeous area of the park (redwoods, ferns, ivy, creek). Take the left over the wooden footbridge and an immediate right to stay on Sinawik Trail. This is winding, rolling singletrack along a creek, and it will eventually spit you out onto Sunset Trail where you'll ride through an open meadow and continue on to climb up to Sequoia Bayview Trail.

Make the sharp left onto Sequoia Bayview Trail and get ready to share the trail with lots of hikers, joggers, and dogs (often off-leash even though it is unlawful). Stay on Sequoia Bayview Trail as it winds around and eventually deposits you out onto the pavement near some restrooms just above the horse arena. Take the pavement (past the yellow gate) all the way until the Big Trees parking area on Skyline Blvd. Open up your suspension because here begins the descent.

Drop into Big Trees Trail and follow it until it ends at another Skyline Blvd parking/staging area. Make the right turn onto Sequoia Bayview Trail for only a moment before taking the hairpin left turn at the wooden fence onto Palos Colorados Trail. Watch for the optional\u2014but highly recommended\u2014left uphill split for a little extra flow. After it ends, take the left onto Sunset Trail back through the meadow, and take the wooden footbridge on the left to Sinawik Trail, which will take you all the way back to The Lookout.
From here, you'll drop Bishops Walk and descend back down to the parking on Joaquin Miller Road.
