Almaden Trail starts on Almaden Road in the little historic village of New Almaden. The trail immediately crosses Los Alamitos Creek on a sturdy bridge. From here, the trail climbs gradually, as it winds its way through grass hills to a trail junction with North Ridge Trail. When looking southwest, the wooded hills of Quicksilver County Park can be seen close by and the Santa Cruz Mountains can be seen in the distance.

Almaden Trail ends at its trail junction with North Ridge Trail.
