Gordon Mill Trail

Overview

The Gordon Mill Trail begins from the CM00 or CM03 gate/parking area. It is a former logging road and a very wide, well constructed "superhighway." The moderate and monoclinic grade makes for a reasonable option when travel in either the uphill or downhill direction. The initial grassy, exposed hillside soon becomes heavy tree cover.

Notice the deep road cut on your right as you descend. This was a major road built during the late 1800s to haul lumber and machine-cut shingles from the deep canyons some 1,200 feet below to the Skyline Ridge and on to Redwood City for shipment to San Francisco. The trail parallels a stream for most of its length before ending at a T-junction with the Timberview Trail. Note: bikes are allowed on this trail.

This trail derives its name from Alexander Gordon who purchased about 400 acres from the Gilbert brothers and erected a lumber mill near here.
