Joice Trail starts from the Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch that is at a Santa Teresa County Park entrance in south San Jose.

From its trailhead, for its first mile, this trail climbs relentlessly in the grass-covered Santa Teresa Hills. As the trail climbs, views of suburban south San Jose can be seen, with the views expanding to the entire San Francisco Bay Area as altitude is gained.

The Joice Trail reaches its summit a mile from the trailhead. At this point, views of all of Santa Teresa Park, rural Almaden Valley, and the Santa Cruz Mountiains, emerge ahead, to the southeast. Additionally, Vista Loop Trail, a short 0.7-mile viewpoint loop, can be taken from here.

From its high point, the Joice Trail then descends rather steeply for about 0.1 miles, to end at an intersection with the Bernal Hill Trail.
