Pass through the gate at Mt. Hamilton Road and follow the fire road past the white Washburn barn. After a slight dip to cross a (usually dry) stream bed, the trail climbs for the next two miles with some short, but steep stretches. Great panoramic views of San Jose and the surrounding hills on clear days.
A small creek runs through this wide high creek valley, with a marshy area along the creek, at the Washburn/Canada de Pala trail junction.
Heading into the Diablo Range hills, the historic Washburn Barn is ahead, as Washburn Trail passes spring wildflowers in the green grasses.
