Catamount Trail

Overview

Catamount Trail climbs from the stream of Baldy Ryan Canyon, to Bald Peaks Trail, a high ridge top trail. Catamount Trail begins at Longwall Canyon Trail, about .9 miles from the Longwall Canyon Trail trailhead on Casa Loma Road, very near the Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Preserve parking lot. The Catamount Trail junction on Longwall Canyon Trail, where Catamount Trail starts, is well marked on a post.

From Longwall Canyon Trail, Catamount Trail climbs through woods, brush, and grass hillsides for about its first .9 miles. As the trail climbs, great views to the southwest, south, southeast, east, and northeast unfold. The Santa Cruz Mountains, including Loma Prieta, can be seen. The Diablo Range can be seen. And many ridges extending into the distance can be seen. Also, the nearby grass and wooded hills are beautiful.

About .9 miles from its trailhead, Catamount Trail levels off for a while before making a final short climb to reach the high ridge of Bald Peaks Trail, where Catamount Trail ends at Bald Peaks Trail.
