The Mile Trail has some very steep, rough sections where you may need to use your hands if you're hiking or running. Mountain bikers should wear full protective gear.

I often use this trail to create a loop hike. I start up Old San Pedro Mountain Road (OSPMR) and take this trail up to the San Pedro Mountain Trail. I take that trail across the top to connect again with OSPMR at its high point, and then return via OSPMR. You could reverse this loop, but, on the Mile Trail, you are less likely to slip when hiking up than when hiking down, and you can easily see any bikers who are coming down.

The bottom end of the trail is easily found after the saddle that is a little past the eucalyptus forest. The upper end is harder to see. Just before the little summit on the west end of San Pedro Mountain there is a small trail perpendicular the San Pedro Mountain Trail. The trail starts almost level and heads straight through the brush.
