Zuma Loop

Overview

From the parking area, head west on the Pacific Coast Highway and take the first left on Busch Drive. Follow the road north for a warm-up pedal to the Zuma Ridge Trailhead. Start onto the Zuma Ridge Trail for a long, steady climb. It's all uphill, but it's not overly steep. At mile four, the trail intersects with Zuma Edison Road.

The views from here are superb so make sure to enjoy your perch high above the ocean. You'll also be able to see the daunting view of the ride's second climb to the east.

Follow Zuma Edison Road for a two-mile descent that's pretty fun and not technical. Get ready, because the hard part comes afterward.

The grade turns upward again and what starts as a gradual climb, soon steepens into a long grind that doesn't back off for over a mile. Turn right onto the Zuma Canyon Connector Trail and take another opportunity to rest and enjoy the views before heading into a final straightforward descent.

This section of singletrack switchbacks down to the Kanan - Edison Road where another right turn keeps the descent going. The trail here is a narrower doubletrack, but still easily manageable. Note that both the Canyon View Trail and Ocean View Trail that intersect this section are closed to bikers. At the bottom, turn right onto Kanan Dune Road and follow it down to the Pacific Coast Highway. Make another right and pedal back to the parking area.
