One of the most popular and scary trails in the Whiting area, The Luge will get your heart racing each time a turn takes you to the edge of a drop-off. Due to its popularity, unfortunately, the massive amount of braking has built up a huge number of 6"-12" dirt and rock "ledges" all along its length. So, be very careful when in attack mode, these small drops can distract you from the important job of not going off the cliff!

From the flag hill, the trail is soon on the edge of a razor edge with steep drop-offs on either side. The Luge slides down to the right side of the cliff, and for much of its length is a 3-4 foot wide half-pipe that twists, back and forth, on the edge of a sheer drop. The downward push along this snaking tube of trail is relentless. Personally, I have to take a break half-way down to give my screaming forearms a break, and to quench the fire in my aching calves and feet. The brakes are always on, and the impacts never stop.

At the bottom, the trail spills onto a paved access road. Follow this left, out to Live Oak Canyon Rd., and turn right, downhill.
Out riding The Luge on a demo day!
Cool overlook with a flag at roughly the halfway point.
First time on the Luge was a great ride.

If you made it to the Flag pole - you made it half way! Now watch out for speed on the descent and some obstacles on the descent - be careful they come up fast! Better safe then sorry!
