This is a hike right down the middle of Happy Camp Canyon. There is a campground with benches for a nice lunch break. It can get quite hot during summer, so try to avoid in the middle of the day. Either way, take plenty of water.
A three way split in the trail. You can clearly see the left one, and the right is off to the right side of this frame. Take the middle one to get home!
The long stretch home! You can see the parking lot straight up the trail in the distance.
The parking lot. Plenty of spaces and easy access. Many times you'll see horse trailers parked as the first part of the trail is a favorite for equestrians.
Typical view of the bottom part of the trail before you get to the trailhead.
The actual trailhead (about 1.1 miles from the parking lot)
Some great trees along the trail.
This becomes a very narrow path in sections. Long pants are a must.
A view of the Rustic Canyon Golf Course from the early part of the trail
A great view of Rustic Canyon Golf Club to start the trip.
The bottom section of the trail provides a lot more shaded areas to hike along.
Make sure to stay on the more worn path. It is easy to take a side trail and be on the wrong track.
The bottom of the trail is pretty typical California chaparral.
The water tank just before you get to the campground.
Plenty of spots to have a short break in the shade.
The trail down can be very sloppy dirt and a tough hike down.
A nice hike back inside the canyon.
The first part of the hike that takes you along Rustic Canyon Golf Course.
Another beautiful view of Rustic Canyon.
Don't miss the turn off the dirt road to the singletrack trail.
