Bill Reilly Trail

Overview

From Red Box on Angeles Crest Highway, turn onto Mt. Wilson-Red Box Road for 0.2 miles then turn right at a junction with paved Mount Disappointment Road #2N57 (unsigned). There are a limited number of parking spots near the gate 100' from the junction and more down near the intersection. The trail starts on the left just past the gate ascending a series of short switchbacks then entering an enchanting oak forest. There are some nice manzanita bushes along the path as it climbs steadily to rejoin the Mount Disappointment Fire Road. <br><br>To reach the peaks, turn left onto the paved road and in 0.2 mile it makes a sharp bend to the summit of Mt. Disappointment which has an electronic site. To reach San Gabriel Peak, continue straight east and follow a singletrack trail to a junction with the San Gabriel Peak Trail #12W24. Turn left and follow the steep trail to the summit.<br><br>You are rewarded with a spectacular view of Mount Baldy from the top. You are also looking down at the Mount Wilson Observatory.
